JUST IN:Hull City waits on Manchester City’s decision on Liam Delap’s future

Liam Delap says talks with the defending Premier League champions this summer are necessary and has not ruled out staying at Hull City past the end of the current Championship season.

Since joining on loan from FA Cup finalists Manchester City, the striker has made a significant impression at the MKM Stadium. As he continues his recuperation from a knee injury that sidelined him for three months, he produced another excellent cameo in the second half of Saturday’s goalless draw at Watford.

Liam Rosenior is eager for Delap, who has three years left on his current contract, to stay at City for the upcoming season. During last weekend’s 3-0 victory over QPR, fans sang songs pleading with owner Acun Ilicali to make Delap’s move permanent. Delap is scheduled to return to the Etihad Stadium in the summer.

When asked what it meant to hear such songs and such affection emanating from the terraces last weekend, Delap responded, “It’s nice to hear,” to Hull Live. Being valued in a situation is a pleasant experience for a player.

“All you need to do is play the remaining three games, and ideally three more, and watch what transpires come summertime. I’ll simply wait and see what happens, but clearly there are conversations that take place. I really enjoy being here, I really enjoy the fans, and I really enjoy playing, especially with the boys and the boss. We’ll simply wait and see, you know, there are talks to be had.”

After missing three months due to a knee injury, the striker just made his comeback to the field last weekend as a substitute. He feels that the club should be commended for staying with him.

“Yes, without a doubt (thanks to the club for supporting him). I feel that I owe everyone a huge debt of gratitude because I adore this place. They did that, and it has truly made me happy because it allows me to play in front of the fans and play the final few games with the boys.”
