Breaking News:J.J. McCarthy becomes the first QB in Vikings franchise history to be drafted in the top 10

The quarterback position was on the minds of the Minnesota Vikings heading into the first night of the 2024 NFL Draft.

Even though the Vikings signed Sam Darnold earlier in the summer, it was clear that they were looking for a replacement at the position in the draft after losing Kirk Cousins.

Although there were rumors that the Vikings would spend a large amount of draft money to get their guy, it didn’t work out.

They did trade up, but J.J. McCarthy might have been drafted with just a single slot change.

McCarthy’s winning record in college made him the quarterback that many supporters had hoped the team would choose.

The Vikings made an amazing selection that shattered the team record.

McCarthy is the team’s highest-drafted quarterback in history, per ESPN Bet.

McCarthy will try to turn the Vikings’ fortunes around since they haven’t always been fortunate enough to choose quarterbacks in the first round or later.

He was highly anticipated throughout the pre-draft phase, and the Vikings could be well-positioned going forward if his prospect profile materializes on the NFL field.

In his debut season, McCarthy will have T.J. Hockenson, Jordan Addison, and Justin Jefferson at his disposal, which should help him get off to a quick start.

Without sufficient pass-catchers, rookie quarterbacks may find it difficult to succeed, but the Vikings’ attack is replete with them.

Assuming the Vikings extend Jefferson, who is among the top receivers in the league, as planned, this may be a match made in heaven for all sides.
