JUST IN:Relief prospect Isaac Stebens has been promoted by the Red Sox from Low-A Salem to High-A Greenville

According to the Red Sox’s MiLB.com transaction log, reliever prospect Isaac Stebens has been promoted from Low-A Salem to High-A Greenville.

Stebens, 22, was selected by Boston from Oklahoma State in the sixteenth round of the previous draft. After spending $150,000 to sign, the Stillwater native did not pitch for a minor-league affiliate despite pitching 64 1/3 innings and being named to the NCBWA’s third team All-American during his one and only season with the Cowboys.

Rather, Stebens debuted as a professional earlier this month in Salem. For Boston’s Carolina League club, the right-hander had six appearances. In 11 innings of relief, he gave up three runs (one earned) on seven hits, four walks, and fourteen strikeouts while holding the opposition to a.179 batting average against. In addition, he made three of his four save attempts.

Standing at 6 feet and 194 pounds, Stebens throws with a distinctive style that combines a slight leg kick with a low three-quarters arm slot. His SoxProspects.com scouting report indicates that he mostly uses a sinking low-90s fastball that reaches a maximum velocity of 95 mph in addition to a high-70s slider.

Stebens is the third player in the Red Sox’s 2023 draft class to move from Salem to Greenville thus far this season; he won’t turn 23 until December. He thus joins Max Carlson, drafted in the 12th round, and Zach Fogell, drafted in the 18th round. However, Carlson was sent back to Salem on Tuesday after playing in just one game for the Drive.
