Spurs could gain from significant Sunderland departure in January, while Brighton and Crystal Palace compete for elegant star

Burnley, Brighton, and Crystal Palace are among the Premier League teams vying for Sunderland winger Jack Clarke. However, TEAMtalk understands that Tottenham stands to gain the most.

After leading Sunderland into the top six last season, Clarke has emerged as one of the greatest players in the Championship in the previous 12 months. However, his team’s play-off aspirations were dashed against eventual winners Luton in the semi-final. In fact, he concluded the 2022–2023 season with an outstanding total of nine goals and twelve assists from 47 games; this performance naturally garnered a lot of attention throughout the summer.

But Clarke refused to allow the disappointment of playing in the Premier League again deter him, and Sunderland held firm.

In fact, Clarke is tied for the league lead in goals scored with seven from his first 11 games played. The 22-year-old was also selected as the Championship’s September Player of the Month.

However, following a loan spell from Tottenham, he signed a permanent contract with Sunderland last year. Now, Sunderland must fight harder to keep their top player.

In light of this, Burnley made several attempts to sign him but was unable to finalize a deal, and the Black Cats turned down offers totaling more than £10 million in the summer. We recognize that, with a condition entitling Tottenham to a sizeable portion of any future sale, the offers were insufficient to entice Tony Mowbray’s team to sell.

But now that other teams, including Burnley, are planning January moves for Clarke, Tottenham are set to gain.

Although the Clarets are still interested in him, we are aware that several other Premier League teams are getting ready to move for him in January.

Furthermore, we can disclose that Crystal Palace and Brighton have been actively monitoring Clarke since the previous season and are prepared to make a move in January.

It is also known that Clarke has been observed by Brentford, Wolves, and Bournemouth this season; nevertheless, it appears unlikely that they will make a move just yet.

According to reports, Sunderland values Clarke at approximately £20 million, while his Premier League pursuers are prepared to start bidding at £15 million.

Tottenham’s percentage of any future sales has not been made public, although reports suggest it might reach 50%. Consequently, if the player were to move, Tottenham’s losses from paying Leeds £10 million for the winger in the summer of 2019 would be somewhat mitigated.

In the summer of 2022, Clarke announced his permanent departure from Tottenham after making just four league appearances.
