JUST IN: Rangers set to sign Leeds United forward

The fact that Rangers are interested in Leeds United forward Joe Gelhardt this month does not surprise journalist Dean Jones.

With 49 appearances for the Whites, Jones thinks the Elland Road attacker is ready to perform in the correct setting.

Under Daniel Farke, the 21-year-old has made eight appearances in all competitions this season, tallying one goal.
As Jones stated to GIVEMESPORT, “I guess it’d be a loan move.” “Gelhardt appears prepared to perform on the appropriate platform, making him a nice profile player.”

“He has great qualities, but they definitely require some refinement right now. The fact that Rangers and Celtic are currently making inquiries on both fronts is not surprising.

It must give a player like Gelhardt more confidence to have those discussions going on around him at the moment. It’s different whether they can materialize and become a transfer, but it doesn’t seem harmful to consider such scenario.
Due to Farke’s lack of playing time this season, Gelhardt’s departure from Elland Road during the January transfer window appears imminent.

Only six Championship games and two EFL games have been played by the youthful striker, who has scored in the latter league.

Since going to Elland Road, summer signing Joel Piroe has performed admirably in the last third, thus the lack of playing time has been somewhat expected.

Gelhardt is currently well down the hierarchy since Patrick Bamford has recovered and is once again among the goals.

Though the striker’s footballing whereabouts is still unknown, Rangers may use a fresh face in that role come next month.

But with some of Michael Beale’s forward additions taking time to settle in at Ibrox, manager Philippe Clement will have to exercise caution.

Gelhardt would benefit greatly from a loan swap, which would provide him consistent playing time to regain his footing and scoring touch.
