JUST IN : HC McCarthy Reveals Future Plans After Final Year With The Cowboys

Orlando, Florida — Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy discussed his own contract, which expires at the end of the 2024 season, as well as the expiring contracts of most of the prominent members of his coaching staff, including defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer, during his speech at the Annual League Meeting in Orlando on Tuesday morning.

McCarthy, who has been Dallas’ head coach since 2020 and has a 42-25 regular season record but just a 1-3 postseason record, may face more pressure this season, but he is content with the future and is just thinking about 2024.

“We’re all given an excellent opportunity to coach the 2024 Dallas Cowboys,” McCarthy stated. There isn’t anyone more involved in that than we are. Regardless of where you are in your contract, everyone is different when it comes to the financial aspect. It doesn’t seem like extra pressure to me.

McCarthy has been able to focus just on the goal ahead in 2024, realizing that there is still a good opportunity ahead, even though there is a chance that the season will not result in his contract not being renewed.

“I think you can’t lose sight of the big picture,” he stated. “Yes, this has always been how I’ve done things. It’s no secret that I feel really fortunate to be here. I’m deeply involved in my current endeavors, and I consider myself really fortunate to have had these possibilities. I always remember that. That has always been my overarching strategy.”

“Now that I am aware of where I am in my career, I worry about the younger coaches more than I worry about myself. But in actuality, you’re really looking at it the wrong way if you don’t approach it in the same manner each year.”

He has previously adopted this strategy in the past; in 2018, he played through a one-year extension with Green Bay and was eventually not brought back. This summer, he intends to put those particulars behind him in order to prepare appropriately.

“I think it’s just the reality of our industry,” he stated. That’s the truth of it.Your approach to the season shouldn’t be affected by your financial situation. Like anything else, whether you’re a coach or a player, you have to go through a commercial transaction and our guys have the chance to negotiate.”

McCarthy isn’t seeking sympathy, even in light of the fact that Dallas has had to make more plays on the field with fewer veterans and experience due to an offseason.

He said, “Don’t feel sorry for me.” I’m doing fantastically. It’s not at all problematic. Every year, you must use the same attitude, and that is how I have approached it.”
