JUST IN: Crystal Palace boss sends message to his players after win against Newcastle United

After Crystal Palace’s joyous 2-0 victory over Newcastle United at home, which guaranteed the Eagles’ place in the Premier League, manager Oliver Glasner urged his team to get a “addiction to winning.”

The game’s MVP was none other than the highly effective Jean-Philippe Mateta, who scored twice in the second half to bring his total to eight goals in nine games since Glasner took over in February.

When Roy Hodgson took over, Palace was only five points above the drop zone. After their third straight victory, though, they are now comfortably sitting at 39 points, fourteen above the drop zone, with twelve games remaining in the current campaign.

Glasner declared, “Now we hope for four in a row.” “It was a fantastic performance, and the players deserve all the praise for their enthusiasm, intensity, and offensive style of play, which constantly aims to score goals.

Naturally, having accomplished the first goal of mathematically remaining in the Premier League is a satisfying feeling. Indeed, it’s a pleasant sensation, and I hope players grow dependent on this mood and sensation when they win games.”

With Eberechi Eze leading the attack, the Eagles took early control of the game. Mateta made a great team move with Jordan Ayew to turn around the score 55 minutes into the game after it had been goalless at the half.

Jean-Philippe Mateta scored an impressive goal in the contest, his fifth in as many home games. When Sean Longstaff was hauled down in the 76th minute, Newcastle made a contentious penalty appeal, but Crystal Palace held their composure and won with two minutes remaining.

Mateta scored another great goal through the legs of Martin Dubravka, putting away his 14th of the season, following a clever combination between Hughes and substitute Jeffrey Schlupp.

“It is all about that we are a unit on the pitch and then of course the strikers are then in the position where they can score and then can show their quality,” Palace manager Glasner said of this thrilling display.

“He’s got a lot going for him, and his confidence has grown.” A simple left foot touch scored the second goal. I now think it’s critical that we maintain our humility.”

We want to do everything for our club, our supporters, and ourselves collectively, so for us, it’s about continuing to be hungry and ambitious.”
