Ex-Hull City striker Benjamin Tetteh hit by early blow to FC Metz career

Benjamin Tetteh’s start to life at FC Metz has got off to a difficult start after the striker picked up a thigh injury which will keep him sidelined until after the international break. Tetteh spent a year at Hull City before he made the move to France earlier this summer in a deal worth around £1.5m, but has managed just 21 minutes of action in his two Ligue 1 games so far.

The Ghana international came off the bench to play 15 minutes in Metz’s 5-1 opening-day defeat before getting six minutes on his home debut in a 2-2 draw with Olympique Marseille and then missed Sunday’s 1-0 victory against Clermont Foot.

During his 12-month stay in East Yorkshire, Tetteh’s spell was heavily hampered by injuries with the 26-year-old playing just 15 times, and managing only 766 minutes of action in the Championship., his only goal coming in the 2-0 win over West Brom.

In total, Tetteh missed 31 games with the majority of those because of hamstring injuries picked up in games against Sheffield United last September and then at Coventry City in mid-March, he was also sidelined for three games following an altercation with Oliver McBurnie at Bramall Lane in January.

“He’s probably one of the players that I had the closest relationship with in the squad, I absolutely love him to pieces. The decision to let him go is not for footballing reasons, and if it was for footballing reasons and we wanted to keep him then we would,” City head coach Liam Rosenior said following Tetteh’s exit.

“For us, and I know Acun is the same, I care about people and I know Acun cares about people. It’s nothing to do with the club, it’s more to do with his situation away from football, it’s a good move for him.

“He came into the training ground and I had a great 15 minutes with him. I told him that just because he’s leaving the club, we’ll still be in contact and we’ll still be friends and I’ll be there for him, he loved it here, absolutely loved it, he was in tears at leaving the club but it was the right move for him, and to be honest, it’s the right move for us as well.”
