Everton keen on signing Kalvin Phillips during the january transfer

Given their dismal start to the season, Everton could definitely use a few new players arriving during the January transfer window.

Having won just two of their eight Premier League games this season, the Merseyside team is currently ranked sixteenth.

After bringing in a few new players in the summer, manager Sean Dyche will undoubtedly look to add more players in the next window.

One possible addition would be Kalvin Phillips, a star player for Manchester City who Everton wanted on loan during the last window, according to The I (10 October).

The England international ultimately decided to stay at the Etihad, but in a positive development for Dyche and the Toffees, Phillips is now prepared to weigh his alternatives, per ESPN (October 13).

When the time comes, there won’t be a shortage of possible suitors for the former Leeds United player, and he might even have his choice among a large number of clubs.

Everton will be driven to rank at the top of his list, but considering the player’s skill level and real improvement potential, that will probably be a difficult task.

But with their desire for a loan agreement—something Pep Guardiola could even favor over a permanent departure—the Toffees could stand out in the competition for his signature.

Although the 27-year-old’s future is still uncertain, leaving Manchester City seems to be the smartest course of action.

At this point in his career, he should be prioritizing regular club football above all else. However, he is seriously harming his chances of playing for England by staying on the bench under Pep Guardiola.
