BREAKING : Cowboys To Reunite With All-Pro Running back Ezekiel Elliott

In addition to letting Tony Pollard depart and sign with the Tennessee Titans, the Dallas Cowboys were unable to sign any of the top running back free agents. But the Cowboys might bring in a very familiar person as a veteran at the position, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler.

Dallas and former first-round pick Ezekiel Elliott are interested in getting back together, according to a report from Fowler on Saturday.

After winning two rushing titles in his first three seasons during his first seven years in the NFL with Dallas, Elliott secured a six-year agreement worth $90 million in 2019. After that, he placed second in all-purpose yards and fourth in rushing that season, but he started to suffer. Elliott began to experience some bothersome injuries, which prevented him from gaining 1,000 yards in 2020. He returned to that level the following season, but by then it was obvious that Pollard was the more productive player, and in 2022 they shared the backfield.

Elliott was wanted back by the Cowboys last season, although at a reduced cost, but a deal could not be reached. For the New England Patriots in the previous season, Elliott gained 642 yards on 184 carries, both career lows.

During his final season with the Cowboys, Elliott was particularly useful in short-yardage scenarios; in fact, the majority of his 12 rushing touchdowns occurred in the red zone. Elliott might rewrite the same function as a member of a committee now that Rico Dowdle has resigned and a rookie will be added in the draft. It will be interesting to watch if a revived marriage can result from this.
