UPDATE: “After securing Bam Adebayo’s contract, the Miami Heat may consider three strategic moves.”

On Wednesday, the Miami Heat secured Bam Adebayo with a three-year, $166 million contract extension.

The Miami Heat kicked off their offseason on a high note Wednesday by securing star center Bam Adebayo with a lucrative long-term contract extension.

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Miami has inked Adebayo to a three-year, $166 million extension that will keep him with the team through the 2028-29 season. This substantial contract, averaging $55 million per season, places Adebayo among the NBA’s top earners. His remarkable rise from a sparingly used rookie in 2017-18 to a standout player at his position underscores his value.

With Adebayo, a five-time All-NBA Defensive Team selection, now committed long-term, Miami’s front office led by Pat Riley faces pivotal decisions. Despite reaching the NBA Finals in 2023, the Heat exited in the first round of the playoffs this season, prompting scrutiny over their roster dynamics heading into the summer.

Key among their priorities is resolving the future of Jimmy Butler, with reports suggesting a potential trade amid contract negotiations. Additionally, the Heat must address their perimeter options, possibly utilizing their 15th pick in the NBA Draft to bolster their lineup. Furthermore, considerations include potentially trading Tyler Herro to acquire a complementary star alongside Butler, such as Zach LaVine or Dejounte Murray.

These moves are pivotal for Miami as they aim to strengthen their roster and remain competitive in the NBA landscape.
