UPDATE: The Bears are considered an appealing destination for a 4-time All-Pro defender

Shaquille Leonard, a former Eagles linebacker, is currently not signed with any team (a free agent).

Former Indianapolis Colts standout Shaq Leonard remains unsigned as a free agent, and due to his previous connection with Bears head coach Matt Eberflus, Chicago has emerged as a top potential landing spot for the four-time All-Pro linebacker.

The Bears currently boast a strong linebacker corps with T.J. Edwards, Tremaine Edmunds, and Jack Sanborn as starters. Depth at the position is bolstered by second-year LB Noah Sewell, Amen Ogbongbemiga, and Micah Baskerville, an undrafted free agent from LSU in 2023, all competing for roster spots.

Tyler Sullivan of CBS Sports highlighted the Bears as one of three logical destinations for Leonard, suggesting that Chicago could offer him a valuable rotational role to continue his NFL career.

Leonard had his most productive years under Eberflus during their time together in Indianapolis from 2018 to 2021, where he earned three First-Team All-Pro selections. Justin Melo of The Draft Network also sees Chicago as a potential place for Leonard to reunite with familiar coaches who played pivotal roles in his career.

Despite injury setbacks in recent seasons, including surgeries for a nerve-related back injury, Leonard remains optimistic about his future in the NFL. After a brief stint with the Philadelphia Eagles following his release from the Colts in 2023, Leonard is focused on staying healthy and waiting for the right opportunity to contribute again.

Given his history and potential fit with the Bears’ defensive scheme under Eberflus, Leonard heading to Chicago could be a strategic move for both parties.
