Tyrone Peachey decides whether to continue in the NRL

Penrith Panthers and former NSW Blues utility player Tyrone Peachey has announced that the 2024 season will be his last in the NRL, bringing an end to his 12-season career.

In a heartfelt revelation on his podcast, Peachey, who narrowly missed the 2023 NRL Grand Final and has played 209 NRL games, scoring 60 career tries, shared his decision to retire. “I’ve been battling through some things and I just want to announce that I’m retiring from the NRL,” he stated on the Peached Podcast. He further explained, “I’ve noticed myself not being fully committed to footy, not not fully committed but I suppose trying to set myself up and really dive into work post-football.”

Peachey’s decision is surprising given his 15 first-grade appearances last season and a potential move to the South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2023. However, he has yet to play an NRL game this year.

Tyrone Peachey, the nephew of former NRL player David Peachey, began his career with the Cronulla Sharks, debuting in Round 10 against the Canberra Raiders. Over his career, he played for the Gold Coast Titans (2019-21), Wests Tigers (2022), and had two stints with the Penrith Panthers (2014-18 and 2023-24).

Primarily a utility player, Peachey has been known for his versatility, often playing as a centre or in the back-row. He represented the NSW Blues in all three games of the 2018 State of Origin series and has made appearances for the Indigenous All Stars (seven games), NSW City (three games), and the Prime Minister’s XIII (one game in 2018).

Peachey has scored 60 NRL career tries and six conversions, and his retirement marks the end of a notable and diverse career in the sport.
