Tyler Adams of AFC Bournemouth on “minimalist” Andoni Iraola

Appointed a year ago, Basque manager Iraola has introduced an exciting style of football at Vitality Stadium.

However, it took nine matches for Iraola and Bournemouth to secure their first Premier League win of the season, a 2-1 triumph over Burnley that sparked a successful run for the team.

By the end of the season, Bournemouth finished 12th, setting a new club record for points in a Premier League season.

Bournemouth reportedly lost out on signing a French center-back to Olympique Marseille.

In an interview with former Premier League goalkeeper Tim Howard for the Daily Mail, Adams said, “I think at first it was hard for people to understand because he’s a minimalist.

“He doesn’t overwhelm you with tactics or make things confusing. It’s very straightforward and clear.

“Some people were looking for more detailed instructions and needed more guidance.”

Despite the slow start, Bournemouth dispelled any fears of a relegation battle, with Adams noting that some players were surprised by Iraola’s expectations.

He added, “Some players who were comfortable in that environment thought… what, is this guy crazy?”
