‘Transfer embargo lifted’ for Leicester City is a significant win for the incoming management.

Leicester City’s transfer ban has reportedly been lifted by the Premier League, providing a significant boost for the club and their potential new manager.

The club had been placed under a registration ban by the EFL for allegedly violating Profitability & Sustainability Rules (PSR). Leicester strongly responded to the Premier League and EFL, stating they had initiated legal action against both organizations. The Foxes were also charged by the Premier League for allegedly breaching PSR and were referred to an independent commission.

However, the £10 million received from Chelsea as compensation for appointing Enzo Maresca as manager “will be recorded as pure profit for accounting purposes.” Leicester now believes they will not need to sell players to avoid potential breaches this month. According to The Sun, the Maresca compensation is “equivalent to selling a £50 million player in terms of FFP calculations.”

Leicester City was among five clubs expected to sell players to raise urgent funds, but this is now reduced to four: Aston Villa, Everton, Newcastle United, and Nottingham Forest are still navigating FFP challenges.

Leicester is currently seeking a replacement for Maresca, with former Chelsea manager Graham Potter emerging as the leading candidate according to bookmakers. Potter, 49, has been waiting for the right opportunity since leaving Stamford Bridge in April 2023. He began his managerial career at Ostersunds in Sweden and enhanced his reputation with successful stints at Swansea and Brighton.
