Tiger is released right away and signs with a director who rules out a return for the Southampton player because the deal doesn’t make sense financially for the new squad.

Genk’s technical director, Dimitri De Condé, has ruled out a summer move for Southampton’s Paul Onuachu, citing financial impracticalities.

Speaking to Het Laatste Nieuws, and relayed by Voetbal Primeur, De Condé explained why the striker will not be a target for Genk this summer.

Onuachu spent four years at Genk, becoming the team’s star player with 85 goals and ten assists in 134 games. He left during last January’s transfer window, joining Southampton in an €18m deal on deadline day.

However, the move proved disastrous for all involved, as Onuachu made only 12 appearances and played 426 minutes for Southampton, who were relegated from the Premier League.

Paul Onuachu left on loan in the summer to join Trabzonspor in Turkey, where he has revived his form, scoring 15 goals and providing four assists in 21 league games. While Trabzonspor has been working on a permanent deal, it has yet to materialize, meaning Onuachu will return to Southampton, who are likely eager to offload him.

However, Genk is not a potential destination, as technical director Dimitri De Condé has stated that a deal doesn’t make financial sense for them. He also hinted that Onuachu’s previous attempts to leave have strained their relationship.

“The truth is that as a Golden Shoe, he did not play the first two months and there were even voices in the club to sell him,” De Condé said. “Paul himself said: ‘I am interested and would possibly like to go to Club Brugge.’ That’s where I put my head. In January he still left. I don’t think that makes financial sense for us,” he added regarding the prospect of signing him this summer.
