Rome Odunze is aiming high for his rookie campaign.

Chicago Bears rookie wide receiver Rome Odunze isn’t shying away from high expectations and is actually setting some very ambitious ones for himself.

The No. 9 overall pick in the NFL Draft revealed that he has been studying the record books, specifically Brandon Marshall’s single-season Bears record of 1,508 receiving yards. He is also eyeing Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua’s rookie records of 105 catches for 1,486 yards and six touchdowns from last season.

“That rookie season record, I’m absolutely chasing that,” Odunze told Jason Lieser of the Chicago Sun-Times. “Chasing those records is important. Hopefully, I can leave the Bears organization better than I found it. If I have my name on some of those records, that’s just one way of doing so.”

Odunze’s confidence is evident. His main challenge will be competing for touches with Keenan Allen and DJ Moore, which could limit his statistical potential. However, if he manages the competition as smoothly as he handled the unusual questions at the NFL Combine, he should do well.

Last season, Odunze led college football with 1,640 receiving yards for Washington, along with 13 touchdown receptions.
