Reasons Chelsea should STOP pursuing a deal for Michael Olise

Chelsea and Manchester United are said to be competing in a transfer rivalry for Michael Olise. The Crystal Palace winger was previously associated with a potential £35 million transfer to Chelsea last year, but negotiations fell through. However, following an impressive performance in the 2023-24 season, his valuation is now believed to be around £60 million.

The French player showcased his talent with 10 goals and six assists in a mere 19 Premier League matches, making it understandable why clubs like Chelsea and United are keen on acquiring him.

The main drawback to Olise’s performance is his susceptibility to injuries, although neither team seems overly concerned. However, considering Chelsea’s past struggles with injuries, this should raise some red flags for Enzo Maresca’s team.

Yet, that’s not the sole reason why Chelsea should reconsider pursuing the 22-year-old.

Why Chelsea should abandon their pursuit of Michael Olise:
Olise excels in roles such as the ‘number 10’ or on the right wing, areas where Chelsea already boast numerous options. Cole Palmer, who occupies similar positions to Olise, undoubtedly deserves a spot in Maresca’s lineup for the upcoming season.

If Palmer operates centrally, the Blues have Noni Madueke, Raheem Sterling, and Omari Hutchinson as options for the right flank. And if Palmer plays out wide, Carney Chukwuemeka and Christopher Nkunku can fill in through the middle. Additionally, Chelsea has already secured a deal for Ecuadorian prodigy Kendry Paez, with Brazilian talent Estevao potentially joining next summer.

Given this, Chelsea’s focus should shift towards bolstering their attack with a striker or a left-winger, roles that Olise doesn’t fit.
