Premier League star coveted by Paris Saint-Germain

AFC Bournemouth’s Ukrainian international defender Illia Zabarnyi has been linked with a potential future transfer to Paris Saint-Germain, the wealthy French powerhouse owned by Qatar Sports Investments. PSG, led by club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi, have claimed the French Ligue 1 title 12 times, including 10 in the last 12 years, establishing dominance in their domestic league. Their primary objective now is to secure a UEFA Champions League victory, an achievement that has so far eluded them.

Despite initially targeting Leny Yoro from LOSC Lille, who now seems set to join Real Madrid, PSG has reportedly turned its attention to 21-year-old Zabarnyi following his notable performances at the UEFA European Championships in Germany, despite Ukraine’s early exit from the tournament.

Zabarnyi, who joined AFC Bournemouth in January 2023 from Dynamo Kiev in a deal worth around £24 million, remains under contract at Dean Court for another four years. He has integrated well into the team’s defensive setup, forming a crucial partnership with Marcos Senesi. Under the guidance of head coach Andoni Iraola, the Cherries emphasize a high-pressing style throughout their squad, with Zabarnyi and Senesi playing pivotal roles in their Premier League aspirations.

It sounds like Illia Zabarnyi had quite an eventful game against Belgium, despite Ukraine’s elimination. His performance as a rock-solid defender, keeping star players quiet and delivering accurate long balls throughout the match, showed his talent and potential. It’s unfortunate that Ukraine’s forwards couldn’t convert their chances, leading to their elimination. Zabarnyi even ventured forward on one of his trademark runs, although it didn’t result in a scoring opportunity due to the forwards’ decision-making.

It seems your opinion of Zabarnyi has evolved after witnessing his standout performance against Belgium. Previously, you may have only seen him as a solid defender without fully appreciating his capabilities. Now, his worth and the high asking price seem justified, especially with his display of “100 million talent” that caught the attention of many viewers.

Looking ahead, you hope that Zabarnyi can maintain this level of performance for another season at least, before a top Champions League club potentially secures his services.
