Newsnow: Nathan Ferguson is released as Crystal Palace grants Nathaniel Clyne a fresh contract extension.

Nathaniel Clyne has extended his tenure at Crystal Palace by signing a new contract until 2025. The former England international, aged 33, who emerged from Palace’s academy, has amassed 219 appearances for the club’s senior team. Despite being 33, Clyne featured prominently this season, making 23 appearances.

However, Nathan Ferguson, a defender plagued by injuries, has been released by the club. Ferguson, aged 23, endured a series of serious injuries during his time at Palace, limiting his playing time to just eight minutes over four years since joining from West Brom in 2020. Palace expressed gratitude towards Ferguson while acknowledging his unfortunate injury setbacks.

In addition, Crystal Palace has made an offer for a new contract to goalkeeper Remi Matthews, aged 30. Matthews, who played only once this season, awaits formal acceptance of the contract. His lone appearance came in December’s Premier League match against Liverpool, where he featured for three minutes following an injury to Sam Johnstone.

The club previously announced the departures of midfielder Jairo Riedewald and veteran center-back James Tomkins, whose contracts are set to expire this summer.

Palace concluded the Premier League season on a high note, securing a 10th place finish. Their impressive run included six wins and a draw in their last seven games, all achieved under the guidance of new manager Oliver Glasner. Glasner took over from Roy Hodgson in February and managed to steer the team to a strong finish, marking a promising start to his tenure at the club.
