The NBA season is done, therefore the Lakers may now move more quickly with their search for a new coach.

It’s reported that JJ Redick spent Saturday meeting with Los Angeles Lakers officials, indicating he’s a strong candidate for their vacant head coaching position. Redick, previously an NBA sharpshooter and currently an analyst, has become available for the role after concluding his Finals duties.

Shams Charania, speaking on “The Pat McAfee Show,” highlighted Redick’s extensive discussions with Lakers management, including Rob Pelinka and team ownership. Charania suggested the Lakers are poised to accelerate their coaching search now that Redick’s schedule is free.

Redick’s potential as a head coach is bolstered by his basketball acumen and his rapport with current players, especially his relationship with LeBron James. However, his lack of coaching experience presents a risk for the Lakers, who may see his blank slate as an opportunity to mold him according to their vision.

As the Lakers navigate a sparse coaching market, Redick’s appeal lies in his clean slate and lack of baggage from previous coaching stints. Nevertheless, with the NBA Draft looming, Lakers GM Rob Pelinka is likely to act swiftly to secure a new head coach, with signs currently pointing towards Redick as their preferred choice.

However, recent coaching pursuits like Dan Hurley’s brief tenure underscore that decisions in sports can swiftly change.
