Maxey consents to the Sixers’ well-earned maximum extension.

Tyrese Maxey is poised to ink a maximum contract. The Philadelphia 76ers have preliminarily agreed to a new five-year deal worth around $204 million with the standout guard, pending finalization in the coming days, as confirmed by a source to NBC Sports Philadelphia. This significant raise follows his rookie contract’s final year, during which he earned approximately $4.3 million.

ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski first broke the story, highlighting that the contract is fully guaranteed and lacks any options.

Maxey, recognized as the NBA’s Most Improved Player for the 2023-24 season, averaged 25.9 points, 6.2 assists, and 3.7 rebounds. Despite being only 23 years old, the Sixers are optimistic about his potential for ongoing development.

Reflecting on Maxey’s trajectory, Sixers president of basketball operations Daryl Morey remarked, “We should all learn not to underestimate Tyrese, given his consistent ability to exceed expectations each season.”

Sixers head coach Nick Nurse believes Maxey has room to grow defensively and commented, “A significant part of this is convincing him of his defensive capabilities. He possesses incredible physical attributes—his speed and quickness should enable him to disrupt opponents effectively. Plus, he’s stronger than most people realize, allowing him to navigate screens and box out opponents.”
