The Maple Leafs are expected to face difficulties in re-signing Domi and Bertuzzi.

There’s been significant speculation surrounding the Toronto Maple Leafs’ ability to re-sign Max Domi and Tyler Bertuzzi, although no official announcements have been made. Reports suggest that Tyler Bertuzzi, aged 29, could command a contract averaging $6 million over five years, while Max Domi, also 29, might seek a deal averaging up to $5 million over three years. Elliotte Friedman recently discussed their contract negotiations, highlighting the Leafs’ cautious approach to the length of the contracts. He noted Domi’s desire for long-term security and described him as a good fit for the Leafs over the long haul, though Toronto remains cautious about committing to extended terms. Similarly, while there’s interest in retaining Bertuzzi, the team is wary of the potential risks associated with longer contracts. The Leafs appear more concerned about term than average annual value (AAV) in these negotiations, suggesting it could be a deciding factor in whether they retain both players.
