LeBron James might choose the 76ers over the Lakers if they make a mistake.

The Philadelphia 76ers are showing no signs of restraint as they gear up for the offseason. Their rumored pursuit of LeBron James, undoubtedly the premier free agent, underscores Daryl Morey and his team’s ambition to assemble a powerhouse roster for a championship push in the coming years.

However, it’s improbable that James will join the 76ers next season. The allure of the Lakers, with their esteemed history and willingness to accommodate his needs, particularly at this stage of his career, makes it unlikely for him to depart such a prestigious franchise.

Yet, if the Lakers make a misstep, there’s a slight chance James could consider a move to Philadelphia.

The Lakers surprised many with their reported interest in JJ Redick for their coaching role, only to pivot towards pursuing Dan Hurley, as revealed by Adrian Wojnarowski. Redick, a close associate of James and co-host of a popular podcast with him, seemed like a logical choice despite his lack of coaching experience, given his deep understanding of the game and advocacy for player empowerment.

James has historically favored coaches who allow him considerable freedom on the court, but it’s uncertain whether Hurley, known for his strategic prowess and success at UConn, fits the mold of a “LeBron-guy.”

Ultimately, James holds the key to his future. Philadelphia, with its championship potential and financial resources, could entice him away from the Lakers. A trio of James, Embiid, and Maxey would immediately elevate the 76ers in the Eastern Conference.

While James may not perfectly align with the 76ers’ current dynamics, his stature as one of the NBA’s top players cannot be denied. Depending on the outcome of the Lakers’ coaching situation, Philadelphia could become the destination for another basketball legend to bolster their quest for a title.
