Former Sheffield United player Luton Town is a target for West Ham when the transfer falls through.

West Ham United are eyeing Luton Town goalkeeper Tim Krul, as per Alan Nixon on his Patreon account.

The Hammers are interested in the 36-year-old due to Wes Foderingham’s hesitation to finalize a proposed deal at the London Stadium. The Athletic had previously indicated that Foderingham, soon to be a free agent, was nearing a move to the Premier League club.

Nixon reports that Krul’s contract with Luton expires this summer, allowing West Ham to potentially secure him on a free transfer.

The Hammers are pursuing the veteran as a backup option, a position he held at Luton last season without making a single Premier League appearance.

The former Netherlands international did feature in six matches across all competitions for Rob Edwards’ team, with four in the FA Cup and two in the EFL Cup.

– Appearances: 4
– Goals conceded: 8
– Clean sheets: 1

Krul boasts an impressive career, having won three Championship titles—one with Newcastle United in 2010 and two with Norwich City in 2019 and 2021.

With 222 Premier League appearances, mostly for Newcastle, and as a member of the Netherlands squad that finished third in the 2014 World Cup, Krul at 36 might be willing to accept a squad role for another Premier League paycheck as his career winds down.

Capology estimates that Krul earned £25,000 a week at Kenilworth Road, a significant sum for a player who did not play in the Premier League last season.

Luton’s current first-choice goalkeeper, Thomas Kaminski, is strong, having made 145 saves in the top-flight last season, according to FotMob.

Kaminski had an impressive Championship season previously, keeping 10 clean sheets in 28 games for Blackburn Rovers, who finished seventh in the 2022/23 season.

Meanwhile, Jack Walton could replace Krul as Kaminski’s deputy, following his 36 appearances for Dundee United in the Scottish Championship last season, leading to their promotion.

However, Walton may prefer to stay in Scotland with Dundee United after their promotion to the Premiership, as reported by The Courier in May, where he expressed readiness to begin talks with Jim Goodwin’s team.
