### Darrick Forrest’s Enthusiasm for the Commanders’ New Direction
Darrick Forrest is looking forward to taking on more responsibilities in Dan Quinn and Joe Whitt Jr.’s defensive system. The fourth-year safety has been quickly learning the new creative schematic concepts, as he shared with USA Today Sports. He expressed his excitement to Team 980’s Craig Hoffman, despite acknowledging there’s more to learn.
“It’s been great getting to know the new coaching staff and learning the new defense. Just having fun and building camaraderie. If our brotherhood is strong, nothing can stop us. I have more roles now, moving closer to the line of scrimmage. It’s really about mastering the entire defense and communication. I can’t slack off because I know it well. I’m still learning as I go,” Forrest said via USA Today Sports.
Forrest won’t have Kamren Curl’s support in 2024 since the Commanders did not renew his contract. However, new additions like Jeremy Chinn and Dominique Hampton, along with the re-signing of Jeremy Reaves, and the potential of 2023 second-round pick Quan Martin in the secondary, offer new opportunities under Quinn’s guidance.
These new arrivals challenge Forrest, whose last season was cut short by injury, overshadowing his rising talent. Quinn recognized Forrest’s potential during his roster evaluations, which is a positive sign.
Additionally, Forrest has extra motivation as he enters the final year of his rookie deal. A strong, injury-free season could secure a long-term commitment from the Commanders or another team next spring.
