Of course, Caitlin Clark was meant to take the ESPN anchor’s remark about the “white bitch” as a compliment.

It’s positive to see ESPN covering women’s sports, but it’s disappointing that they struggle to discuss it in a respectful manner. The recent incident involving Pat McAfee referring to Caitlin Clark in a derogatory manner reflects this issue.

McAfee’s use of offensive language not only targeted Clark but also displayed underlying racism towards other non-white members of the WNBA rookie class. It’s a prime example of unchecked misogyny and racial bias.

Following backlash, McAfee apologized for his choice of words but maintained his belief that Clark faces discrimination due to her race. However, labeling someone with derogatory terms, even if meant as a compliment, is unacceptable and disrespectful.

Professional athletes deserve respect and recognition for their talents without resorting to sexist or derogatory language.
