The elder brother of Denver Nuggets star Aaron Gordon, former NBA forward Drew Gordon, passed away in Oregon on May 30 following a collision between a GMC Sierra pickup vehicle and a three-wheeled autocycle he was operating. Gordon last performed in 2023 for the Rising Zephyr Fukuoka in Japan. Gordon was 33 years old at the time.

According to SF Gate, Gordon was discovered dead at a collision scene in an outlying area of Clackamas County, Oregon, at around one in the afternoon in a Vanderhall Carmel three-wheeled vehicle. County deputies’ investigation indicates that Gordon “crossed over the center line” prior to the crash without apparent intoxication.

According to a press statement from the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, the Vanderhall crossed the center line and struck the GMC, according to a preliminary investigation. Impairment does not seem to be an issue at this time.

After being transported to a hospital, the pick-up truck’s occupants received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. The sheriff’s office is still looking into the incident, but as of right now, they don’t think Gordon was intoxicated.

Similar to his brother, Gordon excelled in prep school and was recognized as a McDonald’s All-American in 2008. He later committed to play basketball for the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). In 2010, Gordon moved to New Mexico. Gordon participated in the NBA Summer League with the Dallas Mavericks in 2012 despite not being selected. Gordon eventually signed a contract with the Philadelphia 76ers, however he was only a member of the team for the 2014–2015 campaign. Rather than following in his brother’s footsteps and becoming an NBA superstar, Gordon had several stops in foreign leagues, including France, Russia, and Serbia.

Regarding Gordon’s demise, a statement was released by his younger brother Aaron’s franchise, the Denver Nuggets. The Denver Nuggets commented, “The Denver Nuggets organization is devastated to learn about the tragic passing of Drew Gordon.” Although Drew passed away far too soon, his three lovely children and all of his loved ones will carry on his legacy forever. Aaron and the Gordon family are in our thoughts and prayers during this very trying time.
