Brentford midfielder set to sign with Southampton after out of contract

### Southampton Nearing Deal for Brentford Midfielder Saman Ghoddos

Southampton are on the brink of signing out-of-contract Brentford midfielder Saman Ghoddos, according to reliable sources. This transfer might not cause widespread excitement among Saints fans, but it appears imminent.

As reported by Sport Witness, Southampton are days away from finalizing the deal for the Iranian midfielder, who turns 31 in September. Ghoddos joined Brentford in the 2020/21 season, initially on loan before securing a permanent move in January 2021. He played a key role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League that season.

However, Ghoddos has struggled for game time in the Premier League, serving mainly as a squad player over the past three seasons. In the recent season, he was part of the matchday squad for 32 out of 34 Premier League games, starting in 7, coming off the bench in 12, and being an unused substitute in 13.

The signing, which is a free transfer, may be seen as a puzzling move by some Southampton supporters who expected more significant signings. Nonetheless, Ghoddos’ versatility—being able to play as an attacking midfielder, full-back, and winger—seems to be the rationale behind the decision. His ability to cover multiple positions makes him a valuable squad addition.

Southampton manager Russell Martin appears to be focused on building a robust squad rather than just a starting eleven. The potential signing of Ghoddos, along with Adam Lallana, is a strategic move to add experienced players on short-term contracts without significant financial risk.

While fans may demand marquee signings, these prudent additions could prove crucial in what promises to be a challenging season. Major transfer activity is expected post-July 1st, and Southampton will need to secure experienced players at the peak of their powers to strengthen their squad further.
