“I believe he will be fantastic for us,” Ireland’s Jamie McGrath supports Gavin Molloy, who will have an influence at Aberdeen.

Jamie McGrath, an Ireland international, has expressed confidence in compatriot Gavin Molloy’s potential to make a significant impact at Aberdeen in the upcoming season. McGrath, aged 27, is preparing for his sixth full season in English football, having joined St Mirren from Dundalk in 2019 and adapting well to club football in Britain, despite a setback with Wigan Athletic.

During the offseason, Aberdeen saw the departure of Irish veteran Jonny Hayes from their squad, who opted to retire and declined an academy role at the club to pursue other opportunities. Hayes is expected to take on a coaching role with his former club, Celtic.

But McGrath will have company in the squad this season with Dubliner Gavin Molloy, who recently joined Aberdeen from Shelbourne.

“Gavin is a player I know well. He’s been a prominent figure back home for some time and has a strong reputation in Ireland,” McGrath remarked.

“His former team was leading the league. I used to watch them play almost every Friday night, so I was quite familiar with his abilities. Then, I saw him in action during a friendly on Saturday, and he impressed me a lot.”

“He has settled in very well, he’s a really good guy. I believe he’ll be fantastic for us here. And it’s nice to have another Irishman in the squad!”

Reflecting on the international season, McGrath expressed disappointment as he didn’t get any playing time in all four friendly games under John O’Shea. However, at club level, he had a successful campaign, finishing as the team’s second-highest scorer with nine goals in 34 league games.

“Personally, last season was positive for me. It was satisfying to return to regular play and to rejoin the international team,” he remarked. “Playing 48 games shows my body is feeling more resilient.”

“As a team, there were some unforgettable nights to look back on. When I retire, I’ll fondly remember some of the cup games from last season. However, our league performance wasn’t up to par, despite finishing the season strongly.”

“I hope to maintain my form from last season and help the team achieve greater consistency in the league.”
