Andoni Iraola on Ryan Fredericks’ difficult injury season

Andoni Iraola expressed that it was “difficult to help” Ryan Fredericks during his injury-filled season, stating, “It is probably the most difficult situation I have had to manage.”

Fredericks will be released by the Cherries when his contract expires this month, having made only 12 appearances for the club since joining in the summer of 2022.

The 31-year-old did not play under Iraola, as he faced setbacks while trying to recover from a calf injury.

His last appearance for the Cherries was in a 1-0 victory over Liverpool in March 2023.

Speaking about Fredericks, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “For me, it is probably the most difficult situation I have had to manage because he hasn’t trained with us for a single session.

“I have seen him often working alone with Charlie (Moore, rehabilitation coach), but he hasn’t been able to complete training with us.

“He has had setbacks, which is very difficult and surely frustrating for him.

“It’s another six or seven weeks, then he will try to start. When he tries to push, he relapses.

“It has been really tough for him and for me as well because I cannot help him.

“If he starts training with you, then yes, but from the outside, it is hard to assist him.”
